The Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament today with a majority of 53 votes.
It was put to the vote after the Joint Opposition called for a division by name.
Accordingly, it was passed with 112 votes for and 46 against during the second reading; 65 MPs were absent.
However, a division was called again during the third reading. At that time 76 voted in favour and 23 against. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)
